Motor-assist 4WD (e-4WD)
Nissan's unique 4WD system uses an electric motor instead of a drive shaft to power the rear wheels
Nissan's unique four-wheel drive system uses an electric motor instead of a drive shaft to power the rear wheels.
- Optimal control of the traction and torque applied to the rear wheels enables smooth starts and safe, predictable driving on snow-covered roads.
- The 4WD control helps to reduce slippage on roads, even on icy surfaces. Its ability to control the traction of both the front and rear wheels promotes maximum grip while stabilizing vehicle motion to maintain handling control.
- The simplicity of the mechanism needed to drive an electric motor reduces component weight and power-transmission loss, thereby increasing fuel efficiency. The electronically controlled 4WD only operates when necessary, allowing the vehicle to otherwise remain in 2WD mode and optimize fuel economy.
- Because there’s no drive shaft taking up space, the cabin can be roomier.
