Nissan accelerating electrification through Formula E racing
Formula E, the world's sole all-electric single-seater FIA World Championship, provides an elite motorsports platform for leading automotive manufacturers to accelerate EV innovation and brings dramatic racing to the heart of some of the world's most iconic cities.
Nissan has a long and successful history in both motorsports and electric mobility. Determined to showcase its cutting-edge, zero-emissions EV technology before a global audience, Nissan made its all-electric racing debut in Season 5 (2018/19) of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. It's the first and only Japanese manufacturer to enter the series.
Mastering the art of energy management
Nissan tapped its many decades of EV expertise to create its all-electric race car. Knowledge gained from the 28 billion kilometers driven by LEAF customers played a key role in the design of our racing software.
In turn, the lessons learned on the racetrack are helping shape our next generations of EVs.
For example, one of the secrets to success in Formula E is efficient energy management. The development of ultra-efficient battery management software for our electric race cars has led to better intelligent power solutions for our road-going EVs.
Nissan Formula E Team prepares for Season 11
The Nissan Formula E Team will pair Oliver Rowland and Norman Nato to form an experienced and competitive driver lineup for the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The season kicks off in São Paulo on December 7.
Expectations are high for Rowland, who racked up two victories in Season 10, including a win in the final race of the year in his home country of Britain. He also scored two pole positions and five further podium finishes on his way to ending the season in fourth place.
Nato returns to the Nissan Formula E team for the first time since Season 9, when he was regular in the points and scored the team's first podium finish under full Nissan ownership at the 2023 Rome E-Prix.
Season 11 will see the debut of GEN3 Evo technology, making the cars even quicker and more efficient than their predecessors. The new season’s calendar will feature 17 races, including a debut visit to Miami, a return to Jakarta, a double-header in Monaco and the second Tokyo E-Prix — Nissan Formula E Team's home race.
