Automatic Brake Hold

Function that maintains the vehicle in a stopped state, even if the driver takes their foot off the brake pedal

When the driver steps on the brake pedal to stop, the braking force is automatically maintained. This frees the driver from having to continually press the brake pedal while waiting for a traffic light or while in a traffic jam, thus reducing foot fatigue.*1 When beginning to move again, the braking force is automatically released when the driver steps on the accelerator, so no additional operation is required.

System operation

When the Automatic Brake Hold switch is pressed to enable the function, if the driver steps on the brake pedal to stop, then the system will retain the braking force and maintain the vehicle in a stopped state, even when the driver's foot is removed from the pedal. When the driver presses the accelerator pedal, the system smoothly releases the braking force and the vehicle can begin moving.

The system's operational status is displayed in the meter, and the indicator changes from white to green when it is maintaining braking force.

If the vehicle is stopped for more than three minutes, then it will automatically switch to the electric parking brake and the indicator will turn off.
When the driver steps on the accelerator pedal, the electric parking brake is released and the indicator light will turn white again.

System mechanism

When the vehicle is stopped by operating the brake pedal, the VDC*2 unit maintains the brake fluid pressure and maintains the vehicle in a stopped state. When the accelerator is operated, the VDC unit smoothly reduces the brake fluid pressure and releases the braking force.

When the vehicle is stopped for more than three minutes, the driver's seat belt is removed, or the driver's door is opened, then the electric parking brake is activated instead of the VDC.
