Three-dimensional HCCI simulation
To build the ultimate HCCI engine for low fuel consumption and emissions, Nissan has developed pioneering visual simulation technology that models the engine in minute detail in three dimensions. This greatly assists in precise understanding of the chemical reactions in the combustion process, leading to more efficient engine development.
Differences in combustion between ordinary and HCCI engines
HCCI combustion comes at lower temperatures and more slowly than combustion in ordinary gasoline engines, so chemical reactions that are completed instantly in ordinary combustion take longer. Modeling these complex chemical reactions of combustion requires an advanced simulation system.
Three-dimensional HCCI simulation
HCCI combustion is a complex process of chemical reactions represented by thousands of reaction formulae. Existing HCCI simulation technology requires approximately 2 months to simulate such combustion processes in detail, making practical application to engine development difficult. Nissan's newly developed technology enables approximately 20 times faster HCCI simulation, utilizing the company's accumulation of combustion data and advanced combustion modeling technology. This large reduction in computation time - equivalent to approximately 3 days . enables application to engine development.
