Building an inclusive workplace

Making one another feel valued

We’re building an environment that provides fair opportunities and support so everyone has a chance to reach their full potential. A healthy work-life balance that respects individual boundaries and circumstances is key.

Supporting various life stages

“As a new father, I was uncertain about taking childcare leave. But my boss was very understanding and assigned me appropriate duties. For that I am truly grateful.”

“Without the company’s support, bringing Gracelyn home may not have been possible. Our slogan was ‘Bringing Home a Hinson’ during our fundraising process, and Nissan definitely helped us bring home Gracelyn Hope Hinson.”

Providing family support

Programs, facilities and other infrastructure for our people

Fostering a culture of empathy is fundamental. Whether taking care of young children and the elderly, or family members who need additional care, we understand that family time is crucial. We have initiatives in place for our people who have such obligations. For example, we provide expectant parents with seminars and other opportunities to plan career paths before and after the birth of a child. Other initiatives include short-hour work programs and family-support leave, which provide for special paid holidays for marriage, childbirth by a spouse, nursing care and fertility treatments.

In-house childcare centers

Nissan opened its first childcare center at the Nissan Technical Center in 2005. Since then, the number of centers has increased to five locations throughout Japan. Their operating hours are aligned with the working hours of each site to support parents, and help them further their career development.

Flexible working hours

Nissan is a community of diverse individuals with varying circumstances. That’s why we have implemented flexible working plans that allow our people to do their best work around personal commitments. We believe that fostering trust, flexibility and autonomy maximizes productivity.

Employee resource groups (ERGs)

We encourage our people to find communities where they can connect with like-minded individuals or teammates of similar backgrounds. In doing so, we can strengthen camaraderie around the world, listen to the voices of diverse groups of employees and make our company a better workplace. Nissan offers ERGs for women, people of color, people with disabilities, members of the LGBTQ+ community, various social causes and a growing variety of interests. Fostering a culture of belonging empowers our employees in the workplace and beyond.
