Intelligent Dynamic Suspension (electronically controlled shock absorbers)
Helps reduce body movement on any road surface while delivering ride comfort and handling stability
When a vehicle is in motion, road surface irregularities and steering inputs can lead to body movement and vibration. Nissan's Intelligent Dynamic Suspension continuously adjusts suspension damping force in real time based on road and driving conditions. This advanced suspension technology helps achieve ride comfort and handling stability at a high level, delivering a smooth, comfortable ride while offering confident handling and vehicle stability.
System operation
Intelligent Dynamic Suspension automatically adjusts damping force according to various road conditions.
On roads with small surface imperfections, the system reduces damping to help absorb vibrations and improve ride comfort. On roads with larger undulations, it increases damping to better control body movement. By managing the vehicle's motion more effectively, the system helps provide a smoother and more comfortable ride for all occupants.
The system also enhances handling performance on winding roads. During cornering, Intelligent Dynamic Suspension controls damping to create smooth and predictable body-roll characteristics. This helps reduce the need for steering corrections and allows the vehicle to follow the driver's intended line more naturally. Reducing body movement also contributes in minimizing head motion for passengers, helping them feel more comfortable and confident.
Rough road surfaces
Reduces unpleasant vibrations for a smoother ride
Undulating roads
Controls body motion to improve ride comfort and stability
Winding roads
Provides smooth body roll control for greater cornering stability
In addition, Intelligent Dynamic Suspension can adjust damping characteristics in conjunction with the selected vehicle drive mode to match different driving situations and occupant preferences, allowing drivers to tailor their ride feel.
System mechanism
Intelligent Dynamic Suspension monitors data such as steering angle and wheel speed to understand driver inputs and vehicle conditions. Using Nissan's proprietary control algorithm, the system continuously monitors vehicle behavior and immediately determines the optimal damping force required for each situation. Electronically controlled continuously variable dampers then adjust the damping at all four wheels in as little as 0.01seconds.
The system achieves this by continuously varying oil flow within each damper in response to driving conditions. This real-time damping control helps reduce body movement while enhancing ride comfort and vehicle stability.
