Easy Ride

A Transportation Service for More Freedom of Mobility

Nissan started a partnership with the Japanese tech company DeNA (pronounced D-N-A) in 2017 to jointly develop and engage in a series of field tests for Easy Ride®*, a new robo-vehicle mobility service of the future.

With "more freedom of mobility" as its concept, Easy Ride®* is envisioned as a transportation service for anyone who wants to travel freely to their destination of choice. The companies also expect Easy Ride®* will enable customers to discover new local destinations through the service.

The goal is to provide a convenient, easy-to-use mobile app? that allows customers to complete the whole process from setting their destinations and summoning vehicles to paying their fares all from the palms of their hands. The app will also provide customers with the freedom to select recommended local hot spots and different sightseeing routes depending on the customers' objectives. The companies also plan to ensure customers' peace of mind with a 24-hour remote monitoring center in addition to the robo-vehicles equipped with Nissan's proven autonomous driving technology.

The Technology

A Remote Monitoring System Combining Nissan's Seamless Autonomous Mobility (SAM) and DeNA's Service Operations

As part of the Easy Ride®* field test, Nissan and DeNA have also set up a remote monitoring center that uses the two companies' advanced technologies, aiming to develop a robo-vehicle service that also gives customers peace of mind. In the future, Nissan plans to use its SAM technology to remotely monitor robo-vehicles' locations and conditions inside the cabins through cameras mounted both inside and outside them. By connecting the vehicles with DeNA's service platform, vehicle logistics and schedules will also be managed at the remote monitoring center.

Nissan's Autonomous Driving Technology for Robo-Vehicles

Nissan has equipped the field test vehicles with the latest version of its autonomous driving technology.
Fully leveraging the data and information accumulated in the series of the field tests, Nissan and DeNA will work together to develop service designs for driver-less environments, expand service routes, optimize distribution logic for when vehicles share congested roads with driver-operated vehicles, establish pickup/drop-off processes, and explore the possibility of multilingual support, toward the full service launch.
