ECO Drive Support Service

ECO Drive Support Service provides the information to support driver's fuel efficient driving. By changing driving habit through ECO Drive Support Service, individual drivers can help contribute to reduce CO2 emission.

System overview

Based on the vehicle information uploaded from onboard unit, the trend of fuel economy, ranking of eco-driving and the tips for eco-driving are generated and provided on customized web site. Driver can easily confirm the information by onboard information sysytem via Telematics Agent (TA*1) as well as web site.

The service retrieves information from the internet (RSS contents and POI search results as well as ECO-driving information) and the information is presented on a vehicle navigation system with a user-friendly manner.

Experimental Result

Driving experiments using prototype system, resulted in a maximum 24% fuel economy improvement and an average 7.7% improvement*2.

  • Test period : Farmington Hills, MI 2008/7/9 -7/28, 7/29-8/13
    Washington DC 2008/8/26 . 9/12
  • Method : Each subject tested 2 weeks.
    1st week : w/o Eco advices, 2nd week : w/ Eco advices

Experimental results showed that the annual fuel consumption can be expected to be reduced by 45 gallons in the case of average driving conditions*3.
