Overview

This technology developed by the Nissan Motor Production Technology Department was commercialized in collaboration with CKD Corporation. Nissan Motor’s Tochigi Plant and many other plants currently use this technology. The Tochigi Plant's vehicle assembly lines use this technology to assist in transporting heavy objects and replacing tools.

Space-saving and wide range of motion

Using a technology that incorporates the pneumatic cylinders into the arm enables installation and use in narrow spaces. The multi-shaft design enables the connection of up to three shafts with an integrated mechanism that supports loads from below. This design enables a wide range of movement in the vertical and horizontal directions.

Automatic operating pressure control

This technology uses a load sensor to detect the weight of the object being carried and the acceleration due to the movement of the worker, and applies proportional control to match the air pressure to changes in these. Controls the balance between the load during operations and the output of the pneumatic cylinders inside the arm to enable transport that matches the weight.

Reduced worker burden

This technology can be used for all purposes, including for reducing the burden of heavy labor on workers and for making the working environment more friendly for seniors and women.

Introduction to an arm manufactured by a licensee company

This powerful arm, developed under a technical license agreement with Nissan Motor, serves as an assistance device that uses air pressure to lift objects from below. As a means of solving labor shortages and reducing the burden of heavy labor, which are the biggest issues for companies, this arm assists in the transport of heavy objects using the power of pneumatics and functions as a “human assist system” that turns heavy work into light work. This arm helps to reduce work loads and prevent work-related accidents so that women and seniors can play an active role at worksites where heavy labor is still required.
The “PAW Series,” which was released in January 2019, is the 3rd generation model. This global model has a very safe design, conforms to the CE Marking* European safety standard, and is sold both in Japan and abroad. The PAW series is designed to be used for many years with a sense of affection and features a rounded shape that nestles against the user so that they do not feel intimidated or pressured. The design also makes the arm easy to disassemble and adjust, which greatly improves the ease of maintenance.

*Only the shafts comply with the CE Marking European safety standard. Attachments are not compliant.

Arm features

(1) A high level of safety that complies with the CE Marking European safety standard
The design realizes a high level of safety by preventing fingers from becoming caught in the joints and by maintaining the device's position even in the unlikely event that air pressure is cut off.

(2) Arm variations that match the workpiece
Three types of arms can be selected according to the workpiece load. When used in combination, these arms also enable a wide range of movement. Maximum carrying capacity: 80 kg (at φ125 and an applied pressure of 0.5 MPa)

(3) Compact
Even with multi-shaft designs that combine multiple shafts, the proprietary joint mechanism enables the arm to be folded for storage, which makes it compact and easy to store.

(4) Variety of attachments
Hook type, vacuum suction type, clamp type, and various other types of attachments can be mounted depending on the application, thereby enabling the device to be applied to all kinds of work.
