"Skyline 2000 GT-R (PGC10)", a high performance sedan for touring car races with world's first 4-valve DOHC engine fro production cars, was released as a variation of the third generation Skyline C10 in 1969. This is the origin of "GT-R".
Its first race was "JAF GP" in Fuji Int'l Speedway in May 1969. Most participants were clubman drivers. Many GT-R machines of Prince Motorist Club·Sports (PMC·S)* participated but most of them retired due to the difficulty of driving a high-spec machine. As a result, T. Shinohara on No.39 won on points. It was a narrow win for GT-R that would win many races in the future. This is the overall winner No. 39 spec car of JAF GP in 1969, driven by T. Shinohara.
*PMC·S. Prince Motorist Club-Sports, that has participated in motor sports since 1964, with Skyline and NISSAN GT-R.
