Cherry X-1 (1970: PE10)

The first generation Cherry made a debut in 1970 as the Nissan's first FF (front engine, front-wheel drive) car and gained a high recognition especially in Europe. FR (front engine, rear-wheel drive) was being replaced with FF in small-sized cars in those days because FF layout could realize both compact body and large interior space. Most of compact cars today adopt it for this reason.
The name "Cherry" came from the cherry tree for Japaneseness. Gently-curved body named capsule shape and J-shaped side window lines were the exterior features. Coupe of a bold design was added in 1971. This car is 4-door sedan "X-1" with A12 engine of 80ps and SU type twin carburetors.
