Support by donation

On the day of the earthquake, March 11, Nissan made the decision to provide immediate donations to support initial emergency assistance activities by NGO members of the Japan Platform organization.

During this initial stage, Nissan made the following contributions:

  • NGOs in the Japan Platform organization: 30 million yen
  • Reconstruction funds, Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture: 10 million yen
  • Employee donations to the Japanese Red Cross Society were matched by Nissan for a total of approximately 63 million yen
  • Designated fund of the Japanese Red Cross Society: 59 million yen

Further donations were received from many employees who conducted fundraising activities at domestic affiliates, overseas operating companies and at our alliance partner Renault.

There were also many messages of encouragement sent to disaster areas, including large cards signed by groups and 1,000 origami cranes from overseas locations.

Donations came not only from inside the company, but were also made by many visitors to the Nissan HQ Gallery in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture. Nissan also set up donation boxes at dealerships nationwide, and many customers entrusted us with these contributions.

The full amount collected at all these locations was donated to the Japanese Red Cross Society.

Support by Employees

We believe that it is important for employees to participate in the reconstruction of disaster areas, so we have organized volunteer activities every year. Since 2011, approximately 1,300 Nissan employees have volunteered.
